Bigger Projects

South London Sanding (SLS) have the ability to totally renovate floors of all kinds, where as most floor sanding companies shy away from this type of work. Our floor technicians are skilled engineers, with a vast knowledge and understanding of building construction and methods used through the past century, from Edwardian to modern day design. SLS hold a comprehensive data base of architectual salvage specialists from where many types of reclaimed materials can be sourced. SLS also have the ability to re-manufacture floor sections from any material, old and new, to match existing and intended floor designs to make that dream floor come true.

Here you see a 1960's designer house that benefitted an Iroko strip floor throughout, typical of the era due to relations with foriegn parts at that time. As usual, hacked about somewhat by previous owners, with walls moved and extensions added over the years, not to mention the dreaded access damage caused by GPO engineers, plumbers and electricians, further hindered by them knowing carpet would be covering up their poor craftsmanship, so no need to finish off and put back properly.

As you can see, this floor was a little more than just a few repairs. The Iroko strip was of a tongue and groove (T+G) construction, always a problem with removing as you need to start from an edge, or saw cut down the sides and destroy some parts. We had to replace a large area which had been laid with a mis-matched material during an extension project, rebuild steps and totally refurbish the remainder including holes cut here and there. We manufactured, supplied and laid 20sqms of new Iroko, machined to match the existing. The complete floor was then sanded, buffed and finished with Mylands Hard Wax Oil with a hint of black to assist the colour blend.
